I just read a study published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics that I find interesting. It states that tongue studs can cause a gap toothed smile. People, mostly young adults, often push the barbell shaped studs back and forth against their front teeth. This can wedge them apart, opening spaces in their mouths. Add to this, a greater risk of fractured teeth and gum recession – it’s a wonder why anyone would want a tongue stud.
